Enhanced Search Results

Please do something to beef up the search results - possibly more like searchie widgets which are much more like google.
Simply showing the video thumbnails doesn't give the users enough information to select the right video and they end up having to click and start watching several to possibly find the one they want.
(note I swear I've submitted this request before (like a year ago or more) but I cannot find it so I'm creating one in 2.0)

Mitch Aunger, I've just created a new post, https://searchie.canny.io/hubs/p/list-view-in-hub-search-results, for an update we will be working on shortly. There are other search result updates in the works, and we will use this post as the general "tracker" for you guys.
The other post I've just created is a more specific post about exactly what we are working on first. A more advanced update to search results that will involve changing what data is displayed can be found here, https://searchie.canny.io/hubs/p/show-playlist-in-search-results , and that one will take slightly longer to flesh out.

While we are on this subject I am of the opinion the widget should also search for web based content and include it in the search results. This way if the hub has blog posts or other content related to a search it could also be index the page, post etc. Should it bring up urls for attachments may also be a good question yet I wouldn't expect the widget to index the content within the file attachments.

Barry Frain: i believe there's a canny request for searching for text on the hub... please look for it and vote

Mitch Aunger: I had this request (searching text) and Paulina at Searchie directed me to vote here. Just FYI.

This is the main reason I switched to searchie:
- Searching within the videos/ability to go right to the term in the video to save time for the members to get what they need right away. Like others have said...good start what's there but needs so much more with deep content libraries to be truly valuable.
- I also thought that it was supposed to behave a lot more like netflix in that it would recommend videos based on what the user was interested in most....I remember talk of that from very early on but it seems that development has moved away from that? Will McArthur is this something that will be revisited too? The AI aspect? Or am I remembering incorrectly?
Will McArthur
Tara Hunkin: We realize the need to update the search results and the goal is to do this ASAP in all honestly. Hub search results could use a bit of an overhaul so that's the plan right now, with a lot of what's being said in this thread being included in the update.
For the recommendation side of things, we're not quite there yet. Theoretically it might be something we look for in the future, but the number of users with content libraries and audiences large enough for it to have an impact is a small percentage of our user base. For the AI side of things, this isn't on the "product radar" at the moment.
Tara Hunkin
Will McArthur: Thanks for the detailed response...it's appreciated.
Mitch Aunger
Tara Hunkin: what I do is my own 'recommended' kind of section to market so to speak other things the user might be interested in.
I agree with Will that at this point, I don't know that searchie's going to be smart enough to recommend content in the near future, so I do it myself :)

I do love Searchie, but because it used to so what it said on the tin. And was way ahead of the game. Since I started using it so many other platforms have caught up wrt to other things I like about Searchie. So if Searchie doesn't do the one thing that makes it stand out, I will move.

Another excellent request, Mitch!!! I'd love to see this happen!!!

Will, Paulina, not sure why this was moved to a category called "Content & Library" (i know the 2.0 section was removed so it needed to move Edit: Maybe I put it in this section?)... but to me, it is definitely related to the HUBs display not the library itself.
I wanted to also re-highlight this post to you as I think it is one of the most important issues of searchie right now. In the FB group post I made, there are some pretty serious comments about people leaving searchie specifically because of this issue... and those are just the people who bother to say something about it. I think more people are just leaving and not saying anything. https://www.facebook.com/groups/searchie/posts/3257285181258243
I found recently that Coursera has this very exact functionality now - transcription and search within transcription - and they present the results in a MUCH friendlier way. Did a video demo: https://www.loom.com/share/73502f548d824d71b53eea24eba26fa1

Mitch Aunger: This is interesting! I wondered what the alternatives might be.
Will McArthur
Mitch Aunger: Moved this into the Hubs board, good call.
We're talking about this today- I think the search results are due for an update. We will keep you in the loop!

As the video libraries grow, the number of videos that contain the same keywords increases. Users have no way of filtering search results to narrow down on the most likely place to find the information they are looking for. I worry about this with my users. I personally have given up on Searchie Academy because of this issue. Really disappointing.
